Susan DiFrancia’s passion for fabric artistry began early in her life. While crocheting with fancy yarns, sewing with beautiful fabrics & weaving with her own loom, she has always designed and crafted elegant creations.

Susan started her business DiFrancia in SanFrancisco in 1987 and quickly became a principal supplier to Victoria’s Secret Stores. Private labeling for V.S.S. for 14 years enabled Susan to develop a successful formula for creating, manufacturing and marketing unique collections, rich in design, quality and value. Subsequently she cultivated access into fiber markets in Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Canada and the U.S.

Susan learned the Old World Artisan technique of Hand-blocking felt on wooden blocks, and advanced her millinery skills by attending the School for Hatmaking in Zurich, Switzerland. Upon her return from abroad, Susan combined her passion for fabric artistry and accomplished millinery skills with her innate entrepreneurial vision and a new dimension to her business was created, which has led the way to the distinctive DiFrancia fashion mystique of today.

Unsurpassed European fabrics, a profound personal love of hats and accessories, a passion for color, and insistence on meticulously crafted creations, are at the heart of Susan’s achievement. Her 2007 Collections include hand-dyeing silk and wool, hand-tooled silk flowers, hand-blocked wool felt hats and hand-felted wool & silk hats, accessories and trims. DiFrancia’s bella cappe’llo Collections are conceived in Susan’s beachfront studio in beautiful Homer, Alaska, as if they were destined to become a treasured heirloom.
